Hole Eighteen
Hole Descriptions
The gradual build up to the end of the round which essentially commenced on the par 3, 16th hole, will be complete when golfers step onto the 18th tee. The highest spot on the course, the golfer will be confronted with a spectacular, if somewhat daunting finishing hole and club house complex laid out before them.
The 18th hole presents as a medium-long par 4 golf hole, doglegging to the right, and split by a waterway positioned just beyond the landing zone. The strategic location of this water way will cause somewhat of a conundrum for many pro golfers. To lay up short of the water way will leave abut 170metres to the pin, which is somewhat more than ideal for a shot at a birdie, but to fly the tee shot over the waterway way on the drive will require an accurate shot carrying about 290 metres.
Again, like that challenges presented on the 17th, we will likely see a reasonable proportion of golfers chasing a title actually try this option, and this will make for a thrilling finish to a tournament. Likewise, for those who lay up, the approach shot will be reminiscent of many of the tournaments of old, where golfers were required to play a nervy shot with a mid to long iron as a final test of their championship credentials.
The green itself is large with several testing pin positions. The green is dominated by a large bunker on the front right and with 2 more bunkers at the right rear and left rear. The area to the front left of the green has been left free of hazards and instead sees 2 nicely receptive hollows to catch any short hits and facilitate a relatively straightforward uphill recovery shot for the average golfer.
The better player who lays up short of the water will do best to position the ball close to the 2 fairway bunkers on the left of the landing area, which will provide the best line of approach to almost all pin positions.
A successful shot to the heart of the green on this spectacular finishing hole will be a rewarding and memorable experience for almost any golfer.
