Hole Sixteen
PAR 3, 176 M, INDEX 10
Hole Sixteen
Hole Descriptions
The 16th hole is a medium length par 3 and is sure to be a “jaw dropper” for many when they step onto the tee for the first time. An undoubted signature hole, the 16th shoots across the pond shared by the 3rd hole, to a green that is situated on the very edge of the pond.
The dominating feature of the hole is the natural rock wall fronting the rear left of the green and signalling the rear, tournament pin position at the back left corner of the green. The green itself is set in the centre of a steep grassy amphitheatre, the slopes of which house 3 picturesque and steeply faced bunkers.
The general best approach to playing the hole will be a slight draw shot with a mid to long iron, starting on the centre right line before working left towards the centre of the green. It will be quite a nerve wracking tee shot, because a miss to the right will often require a bunker shot to a downhill slope with water beyond the green surface, and of course, a miss to the left will find a watery grave.
The green surface is quite undulating in nature, the aforementioned left rear pin position is separated by a steep step from the centre and flattish front of the green, whilst the right rear and front right of the green offer quite distinct level changes, providing 4 basic pin positions, with multiple subtleties in between.
A memorable golf hole that is sure to see its share of drama in the closing states of a tournament.
